onas Völpel studied photojournalism and documentary photography at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts until August 2021.
After training as a technical draftsman, Jonas traveled to Rwanda, Uganda and Israel and thus discovered a penchant for photography. As a result, he decided to apply to Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. During his studies he tried his hand at making some reportages and documentary works. During an internship at the daily newspapers Weser Kurier he got to know the life of a daily press photographer.
In 2020 Jonas was accepted for a semester abroad in Portugal. While studying in Lisbon at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, he lived in his self-built mobile home. Despite the measures taken to contain the coronavirus, he stayed in the country and experienced a very intense time. Jonas began to take photographs in a diary-like manner and it was only there that he felt he discovered his style of photography. He turned the experiences into a photo book called O Urso Mimosa.
In summer 2021 Jonas graduated and made a photo book about dreaming and the sea. His bachelor project is called Der tauchende Kater.
